MailSwarm is a hosted email provider for people building a business and the agents helping them grow. Bring your own domain and use familiar email apps through IMAP and SMTP. Agents can have distinct, individually authorized mailbox identities on the same mail infrastructure.

Do I need to be a developer?

No. MailSwarm is for anyone building a business. You can use a familiar email app, and the getting-started guide includes plain-English prompts to copy into your agent. Planning is available now; connecting an agent to mail requires an existing account and owner-authorized access.

Is this the same as an agent API mailbox?

Accepted Answer

MailSwarm combines real IMAP and SMTP email with agent access. Humans and agents can have distinct mailbox identities, each with its own authorization. An agent is limited to the mailbox identities and operations approved for it.

Can I use Apple Mail or Thunderbird?

Yes. MailSwarm is designed to work with standard IMAP and SMTP clients, including Apple Mail and Thunderbird. The public launch and connection guides are still being prepared; this website is a product preview.

Can my agent send and receive independently?

Accepted Answer

An agent can use its own mailbox identity through API, CLI, or MCP, within the permissions an authorized workspace owner or administrator grants. Agent credentials cannot approve their own permission changes, DNS changes, billing, exports, or deletion requests.

Do I need my own domain?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MailSwarm is built for people and teams with a domain. You retain control of your DNS, and MailSwarm never automatically replaces the root MX records that direct mail for your domain.

How is email data handled?

Accepted Answer

The architecture uses PostgreSQL and S3 as the source of truth for mailboxes and message content. Amazon SES handles internet delivery at the edge. Customer mail uses SES and S3; Resend is reserved for MailSwarm account notices.

How are workspaces and credentials kept separate?

Accepted Answer

Customer data is scoped to its workspace, with row-level security where it is exposed. Mailbox access is tied to individually authorized identities and credential scopes. Only an authorized workspace owner or delegated administrator can create, rotate, revoke, or expand mailbox credentials.

Can I sign up today?

MailSwarm is in early beta. New account registration is paused; join the early beta list for access updates. Existing account holders can still log in. Hobby, Studio, and Flex are the planned tiers; prices and limits will be announced before public registration opens.

Can my agent create its own account?

Accepted Answer

The current setup requires an authorized owner. A copied prompt can help an agent plan and inspect an existing session, but it cannot create an anonymous account or grant itself credentials. Keep owner tokens and passwords out of chat, and approve domain or permission changes yourself.
